General Information and Requirements
Compulsory Requirements: All guests will be required to sign an indemnity/waiver on arrival.
Fast Facts: Bassas da India is a great destination to all anglers and divers. Our new boat is faster which will help with this. You can expext 30HRS travel time to do the 242NM. Large fish are becoming harder to find and Bassas da India basically guarantees good fishing. Bassas da India also offers divers wall dives, shark dives, wreck dives as good as the Red Sea, if not better, closer to home. With our wealth of knowledge we will look after you and take you to the best spots we know. Fishing is concentrated to our pinnacles 28NM off the Attol on Jaguar Seamount Hall Bank for large pelagic species.
Clothing: On all the trips we advise you to bring at least 2 towels. Linen is provided. We prefer soft bags to suitcases and ask you to pack light - we are in the tropics, however winter is cool, pack accordingly. PLEASE NO SUITCASES.
Medication: Please don't forget your medication. You must inform us of any injury and/or illness. Please make us aware of any special diets or allergies. Mozambique/Madagascar is a malaria area. Long sleeved, light coloured clothing will offer protection from the sun as well as the mosquitoes. Bring insect repellent, sun screen and a hat.
Transfers: All you have to do is send your flight itinerary through to our office. We collect you from the airport and transfer you to our vessel. If you drive your car will be stationed at Smugglers Inn. You will have a small fee of $5 per day.
Spear Fishing: Not allowed at Bassas Attol.
Diving: You are required to produce a current dive certificate or dive card. For all those diving at remote areas we must remind you we are not responsible for any injury or accident which might occur. We do not accept spear guns on board or any other similar device. Please note, nothing less than 50 logged dives on international cruises. Please don't bring too much additional gear - work as a team. Space is limited. We can rent you an air compressor, cylinders and weights.
Fishing: We are proud supporters of Tag and Release and adopt (We Care) for reefs and corals. We provide snorkel gear. Fishing gear can be rented.
Sailing and Dining: The charter packages are shared duty and this means we are now a team and we all sail the yacht and share tasks. The crew do all of the cooking and we try provide you the best possible dining experience.
Hospitality: The vessel is crewed by very experienced sailors. They will look after you and your safety. They will advise you of the running of the vessel on your arrival.
Tips: We are in the catering game so please don't forget to tip the skipper. They work very hard for you and a tip shows good reflection.
Skipper: Our skipper is very experienced.
Alcohol: All liquor, beer & wine shall be for the guest account to provide. Availability is limited to certain stocks. Please consult our offices. A surcharge of 25% will be charged for handling.
Insurance: The vessel comes fully insured inclusive of 3rd party.
Service: Island Adventure Charters are dedicated to making your stay as comfortable as possible. Mozambique can offer fantastic souvenir shopping en-route and ideal, protected sailing waters. We are dedicated to your needs and wish you a great vacation with tight lines, blue waters and clear skies.
Itinerary: If you fly in we will meet you at the airport and transfer you directly to the boat. If you are flying in the day before remember we can accommodate you if you have made the arrangements with our office. Our vessel will travel at 7 - 9 knots. This is a perfect traveling speed. We will depart depending on arrival at 06h00 HRS the day stipulated by our offices.
We encourage you to fish for marlin, tuna and dorado whilst on passage to Bassas da India. The voyage, depending on the weather and currents, will take from 30 HRS to our arrival at the Attol. Please remember that whilst at the Attol we don't split the groups up due to safety reasons. There is no strict itinerary to follow whilst at the Attol and outer reefs. If the weathers sets up whilst we are at the Jacquar and Hau Bank we can run back to the Attol for safe anchorage.
When it comes to return we have to apply a safety factor of 42 HRS to ensure we get you back in time for your flight and we will arrive the morning of the transfer date specified. The checkout is no later than 12h00 PM.
